Iowa Receives Two Forwards In Exchange for Veteran Center
Des Moines, IA – Minnesota Wild General Manager Chuck Fletcher on Wednesday announced the National Hockey League (NHL) club has acquired right wing Curt Gogol (Go-gull) from the San Jose Sharks in exchange for center Chad Rau. Additionally, Iowa Wild General Manager Jim Mill announced the team has acquired forward Riley Brace from the Worcester Sharks of the AHL.
Gogol, 22 (9/21/91), has totaled four points (3-1=4) and 149 penalty minutes (PIM) in 40 games with the Worcester Sharks (AHL) this season, ranking seventh amongst all American Hockey League players in PIM. The 6-foot-1, 190-pound native of Calgary, Alta., totaled six points (4-2=6) and 139 PIM in 38 games with the Worcester last season, and 10 points (6-4=10) and 167 PIM in 53 games in 2011-12.
Rau, 27 (1/18/87), has totaled seven points (1-6=7) in 33 games with the Iowa Wild (AHL) this season. The 5-foot-11, 178-pound native of Eden Prairie, Minn., was selected by Toronto in the seventh round (228th overall) of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft and has played with Minnesota's AHL affiliate during the last five seasons. He totaled two goals in nine NHL games with Minnesota in 2011-12.
Brace, 21 (3/7/92), has split this season between Worcester and the ECHLs Ontario Reign. In 24 games with the Sharks, Brace set up three goals and added three assists. In three games with Ontario, the young forward has three goals and four points. He will remain in Ontario on assignment from Iowa. The 5-foot-11, 183-pounder turned pro in spring on 2013, playing in eight games for Worcester with three goals and six points. He finished his junior career in 2013, playing in 304 OHL games for Mississauga St. Michael’s Majors from 08-13. Over his OHL career, Brace scored 89 goals and added 145 assists for 234 points.
