Three Players Returning to Iowa
Des Moines, IA – Minnesota Wild General Manager Chuck Fletcher on Monday announced the National Hockey League (NHL) club has reduced its training camp roster to 32 players.
The team assigned three players to the Iowa Wild of the American Hockey League (AHL): F Brett Bulmer, D Guillaume Gelinas and F Tyler Graovac. Minnesota also placed D Jonathon Blum, D Justin Falk and F Joel Rechlicz on waivers. Once waivers are cleared, the players are expected to report to Iowa.
Defenseman Jon Blum was among the team leaders in Iowa for points last season, scoring seven goals and totaling 29 points in 54 games. He also set the team mark with six power-play goals on the season. Forwards Brett Bulmer and Tyler Graovac also return to Iowa for their second season in Des Moines. Graovac was seventh overall on the team with 25 points off 13 goals and 12 assists in 64 games. He posted ten points over the last ten games of the regular season. Bulmer’s season was cut short due to injury, but he was among the team leaders at the time of his injury, scoring 11 goals and finishing with 19 points in 43 games played.
Justin Falk is a veteran defenseman, who spent five years in the Wild organization from 2008-13. He played in 21 games for the New York Rangers in 2013-14, posting two assists. Rechlicz is a 6-foot-5, 230-pound right wing that played last season in Hershey (AHL). In 25 games with the Bears, he posted one goal and two points, to go along with 87 penalty minutes.
Rookie defenseman Guillaume Gelinas turns pro after completing his junior career in the QMJHL. He blossomed into an NHL prospect in his final season, setting up 69 goals and totaling 92 points in 67 games from the blueline.
Minnesota also announced it has assigned G Brandon Whitney to his junior team, Victoriaville of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL).
Iowa plays a home-and-home preseason set against the Chicago. The two teams will meet at Wells Fargo Arena in the first meeting, set for Wednesday, Oct. 1 at 6 p.m. There will be a full-team autograph session following the preseason game. Iowa Wild season ticket holders (full, 21-game, 10-game) will be admitted to the preseason game free of charge and will also be able to pick up their season tickets starting at 4:30 p.m. – when the doors officially open for the game. Preseason tickets are on sale at the Wells Fargo Arena box office or by calling (515) 564-8700. Advanced tickets are priced at $6.00 until the day of the game, when the price increases to $8.00. A portion of the proceeds from a silent auction will be donated to the Boys and Girls Club of Iowa. Parking is available in the North lot for $7.00 for all patrons.
Iowa wraps up its two-game set with Chicago at the Wolves practice facility in Hoffman Estates, IL. The Wolves will host the Wild on Friday, Oct. 3 at 7 p.m. at the Triphahn Community Center Ice Arena, located at 1685 W. Higgins Road, Hoffman Estates, IL. Wild fans interested in attending the game may purchase tickets for $8.00 at the main counter of the Triphahn Community Center.
The Iowa Wild 2014-15 season is presented by Mercy Medical Center and begins on the road Oct. 10 in San Antonio. Fans may purchase seats to the Home Opener on Friday, Oct. 17 against the Milwaukee Admirals at Wells Fargo Arena. Season tickets to see the Wild play at Wells Fargo Arena start at just $9 per game.
