Wild Welcomes Chicago This Weekend
Des Moines, IA – The Iowa Wild (2-8-0-0, 4 points) were defeated by the Rockford IceHogs (9-1-0-1, 19 points) 5-3 in front of 4,542 fans on Thursday at Wells Fargo Arena. Led by forward Joakim Nordstrom, the IceHogs jumped out to a 4-0 second-period lead, only to watch the Wild come back and close within a goal in the third period. Three other Hogs scored as the team rattled off its seventh straight win. Iowa forwards Marc Hagel, Jordan Schroeder and Brady Brassat scored with seven minutes of each other to close the gap to 4-3 in the early settings of the third period. Rockford goalie Scott Darling (5-0-0) made 30 saves to preserve the win. Iowa goalie John Curry (0-3-0) stopped 39 of 44 in defeat. Wild forward Brett Sutter and defenseman Stu Bickel each had two assists in the loss. The Wild welcomes Chicago at 7 p.m. on Saturday at Wells Fargo Arena.
In the first period, Rockford opened the scoring at 5:26 with a rebound tally by forward Pierre-Cedric Labre. Labrie’s first goal of the season was set up by Matt Carey and Stephen Johns for the 1-0 lead. The IceHogs doubled their lead at 13:33 with a power-play goal by Joakim Nordstrom, who found a rebound off the pads of Iowa goalie John Curry. Brandon Mashinter and Kyle Cuminsky aided the effort, assisting on the 2-0 lead.
In the second period, the Hogs added two more to push their lead to 4-0. Rockford’s Drew LeBlanc scored at 5:18 to make it 3-0, with assists from Carey and T.J. Brennan. Mark McNeill made it 4-0 with an unassisted power-play goal at 13:42. Iowa countered to cut the deficit in half before the period expired. Forwards Michael Keranen and Ryan Walters set up the team’s first goal at 18:09 of the second period. Center Brady Brassart finished off a play in front of the Rockford net, beating Scott Darling for his second goal of the season and a 4-1 score. Exactly one minute later at 19:09 of the period, March Hagel found a rebound for his fourth goal of the year. Defenseman Stu Bickel and forward Brett Sutter aided the effort, as the Wild went to the locker room down 4-2 after two periods of play.
Iowa closed the gap 4:20 into the third period as Jordan Schroeder notched his fourth goal of the season. Sutter and Bickel each had an assist on the tally that made it 4-3 Rockford. The IceHogs capitalized on their third power-play goal of the day at 9:36, expanding their lead to 5-3. Nordstrom’s second strike of the day was assisted by Adam Clendening and Kyle Cuminsky.
Iowa continues a three-game home stand against Chicago with a two-game series at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 8 and at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 9. Saturday night is Ladies Night, where the first 2,500 fans receive an Iowa Wild ice scraper sponsored by Greater Iowa Credit Union. All ladies (21 and over) may purchase glasses of wine for a $1.00 discount. The Wild will also host Special Olympics Night on Saturday. Sunday is Pucks N’ Paws day, where the first 2,500 fans receive pet tags, compliments of Anderson Animal Hospital. Fans may bring their dog to the game with the purchase of a special $14 ticket, with $2 going back to the Animal Rescue League. Fans are invited to bring a pet food item to donate, for which they receive a free ticket to an upcoming Iowa Wild game. It is also a Subway Family Four Pack game, where fans may purchase four tickets, four sodas and four hot dogs, starting at $48.
The Iowa Wild 2014-15 season is presented by Mercy Medical Center, it runs from October through April. Fans may purchase seats to see any of the team’s 38 regular season home games at Wells Fargo Arena. Season tickets to see the Wild play at Wells Fargo Arena start at just $9 per game.
