Iowa Returns Home Sunday
ROSEMONT, IL – The Iowa Wild (4-12-1-0, 9 points) were defeated by the Chicago Wolves (11-4-3-0, 25 points) 3-2 in front of 9,510 fans at Allstate Arena on Saturday night. Falling behind 2-0 in the game’s first seven minutes, the Chicago Wolves completed the comeback with 3:48 left in regulation off a goal by Phillip McRae. After allowing two early goals, Chicago goalie Jordan Binnington (6-2-1) finished with 26 saves in the victory. Forward Zack Phillips and defenseman Jonathon Blum each scored in the defeat, as Iowa slipped to 2-8-0-0 on the road this season. Iowa goalie Johan Gustafsson (4-9-0) made 34 saves on 37 shots in the defeat. Forwards Tyler Graovac and Michael Keranen each had two assists in the defeat. Iowa will host Milwaukee at 5 p.m. on Sunday.
The Wild claimed an early 1-0 lead just 2:40 into the opening frame with a tally by Zack Phillips. Iowa worked the puck around the Chicago zone with an early power play. Michael Keranen found Phillips in front of the Chicago net. Phillips switched the puck from forehand to backhand and flipped a shot past Jordan Binnington for the one-goal lead. Center Tyler Graovac added an assist on Phillips’ fourth goal of the year. The Wild connected for its second straight power-play goal at 6:48, as defenseman Jonathon Blum blasted a one-timer past Binnington. Graovac snapped a cross-ice pass from the corner to set up Blum on the back-door feed. Keranen added an assist on Blum’s second goal of the year and a 2-0 Iowa lead. The Wolves cut the lead in half at 17:31 of the first period, as Benn Ferriero scored off a wraparound. Phillip McRae had the assist on the play, as Ferriero picked up the puck off the end wall and snuck it past goalie Johan Gustafsson for the 2-1 deficit. Forward Shane Harper added an assist on Ferriero’s first goal of the year.
The Wolves tallied the lone goal of the middle frame at 8:39. Forward Pat Cannone found winger Ty Rattie in the right-wing circle for a one-timer. Rattlie’s AHL league-leading 11th goal of the year tied the game 2-2.
Late in the third period, Chicago’s Phillip McRae found a rebound in the Iowa Wild crease, scoring his fifth goal of the season and lifting the Wolves to a 3-2 lead. Dmitrij Jaskin and David Shields each set up the go-ahead goal.
Iowa returns home at 5 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 23 to face Milwaukee. On Sunday fans can bring skates to take part in the postgame skate after the game, sponsored by Grip-Tite Foundation Repair. Fans are encouraged to bring canned foods to the game on Sunday to support a canned food drive presented by Fire Creek Grill. It’s also a Subway Family Four Pack game, where fans may buy four tickets, four sodas and four hot dogs, starting at $48.
The Iowa Wild 2014-15 season is presented by Mercy Medical Center, it runs from October through April. Fans may purchase seats to see any of the team’s 38 regular season home games at Wells Fargo Arena. Season tickets to see the Wild play at Wells Fargo Arena start at just $9 per game.
