Iowa Hits The Road For Five Straight
DES MOINES, Iowa – The Iowa Wild (5-12-1-0, 11 points) defeated the Milwaukee Admirals (11-4-0-1, 23 points) 2-1 in a shootout in front of 4,117 fans at Wells Fargo Arena on Sunday night. Iowa goalie John Curry (1-4-0) made 33 saves on 34 shots in regulation and stopped all three shootout attempts to record his first win of the season. Forward Zack Phillips scored the lone shootout goal, lifting Iowa to its first win at home over Milwaukee. Wild forward Tyler Graovac also found the back of the net in the victory. Forward Austin Watson scored for Milwaukee late in the third period, which sent the game into overtime. Milwaukee goalie Magnus Hellberg (6-0-1) stopped 18 of 19 shots in regulation and surrendered one of three shots in the shootout. Iowa embarks on a five-game road trip beginning on Nov. 26 with a stop in Rockford at 7 p.m.
After two scoreless periods, Iowa forward Tyler Graovac broke up the tie game in the third period with a goal at the 17:37 mark. Graovac scored off a rebound from forward Jordan Schroeder to score his sixth goal of the season. Schroeder and Captain Stephane Veilleux assisted Graovac on his sixth goal of the year that gave the Wild a 1-0 lead. With 48 seconds left in the period, a goal from Milwaukee forward Austin Watson tied the game 1-1. Forward Brendan Leipsic and defenseman Anthony Bitetto set up the goal that sent the game into overtime.
After a scoreless overtime, that featured many scoring opportunities, the game went into a three-man shootout. In the shootout, Iowa forward Zack Phillips fired a shot past goalie Magnus Hellberg for the 2-1 shootout win. Iowa goalie John Curry stopped all three Admirals shooters for the win.
Iowa embarks on a five-game road trip beginning on Nov. 26 with a stop in Rockford. The team also visits the San Antonio Rampage, the Texas Stars and the Charlotte Checkers. The Wild returns home for a two-game series against the Rampage on Thursday, Dec. 11 on Friday, Dec. 12 at 7 p.m. Thursday’s game is a Throwback Thursday, where fans can purchase popcorn for $1.00, sponsored by 95.0 KGGO. For Friday’s game, the Wild will hold a Teddy Bear Toss and feature $2 beers presented by 100.3 The Bus. For Teddy Bear Toss, fans are encouraged to throw new stuffed animals onto the ice after the Wild scores its first goal. The stuffed animals will be collected and donated to local charities. Iowa then hosts Adirondack at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 14. After the game, the Wild will hold a postgame autograph session with the team. The game is also a Subway Family Four Pack night, where fans can purchase four tickets, four hot dogs and four sodas starting at $48.
The Iowa Wild 2014-15 season is presented by Mercy Medical Center, it runs from October through April. Fans may purchase seats to see any of the team’s 38 regular season home games at Wells Fargo Arena. Season tickets to see the Wild play at Wells Fargo Arena start at just $9 per game.
