 ROCKFORD DEFEATS IOWA 6-1

Iowa Heads to Texas to Meet the Stars on Saturday

ROCKFORD, IL – The Iowa Wild (5-13-1-0, 11 points) were defeated by the Rockford IceHogs (15-4-0-1, 31 points) 6-1 in front of 3,305 fans at the BMO Harris Bank Center on Wednesday night. The IceHogs registered a league-best 15th win of the season opening the scoring midway through the second period and coasting to a fifth straight win. The Hogs scored four goals in the third period and outshot Iowa 49-29 for the contest. Despite a Wild season high for saves with 43, Iowa goalie John Curry (1-5-0) suffered the defeat. Iowa defenseman Christian Folin scored the team’s lone goal, his first as a pro. Rockford defenseman Ville Pokka scored twice, leading the third-period outburst, that saw the Hogs score four times. Rockford goalie Scott Darling (8-2-0) stopped 28 of 29 shots for the win. Iowa continues five-game road trip on Nov. 29 with a visit to the Texas Stars at 7 p.m.

After a scoreless first period, Rockford opened the scoring at 12:49 of the second period. Defenseman Stephen Johns fired a shot from the right point that found a way through traffic and past goalie John Curry. Johns first goal of the year was set up by Phillip Danault for the 1-0 lead. The IceHogs moved ahead 2-0 with 1:51 left in the second period. Forward Dennis Rasmussen beat a Wild defender and slipped the puck past Curry. Rasmussen’s fifth goal of the season was assisted by defenseman Viktor Svedberg. 

The IceHogs pushed their lead to 3-0 after Ryan Schnell poked in a loose puck at 3:31. His second goal of the season was set up off a centering pass from Cody Bass.  Rockford converted another chance at 6:51, making it a 4-0 game. Defenseman Ville Pokka found a seam past John Curry for his third goal of the season. Defenseman TJ Brennan and forward Pierre-Cedric Labrie each had an assist on the play. Pokka tallied his second goal of the night at 10:33, making it 5-0 Rockford. His fourth goal of the season was set up by Brennan and Teuvo Teravainen. The Wild got on the scoreboard at 12:06 of the third period. Defenseman Christian Folin scored his first pro goal from Zack Mitchell and Jordan Schroeder. Folin’s tally trimmed the deficit to 5-1. Rockford would add to its lead at 14:18 off Patrick Regin’s goal. Rasmussen and Kyle Cumiskey each had an assist on Regin’s fifth goal of the year and a 6-1 lead.  

Iowa continues a five-game road trip on Nov. 29 with a stop at the Texas Stars. The team also visits the San Antonio Rampage and the Charlotte Checkers. The Wild returns home for a two-game series against the Rampage on Thursday, Dec. 11 on Friday, Dec. 12 at 7 p.m. Thursday’s game is a Throwback Thursday, where fans can purchase popcorn for $1.00, sponsored by 95.0 KGGO. For Friday’s game, the Wild will hold a Teddy Bear Toss and feature $2 beers presented by 100.3 The Bus. For Teddy Bear Toss, fans are encouraged to throw new stuffed animals onto the ice after the Wild scores its first goal. The stuffed animals will be collected and donated to local charities. Iowa then hosts Adirondack at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 14. After the game, the Wild will hold a postgame autograph session with the team. The game is also a Subway Family Four Pack night, where fans can purchase four tickets, four hot dogs and four sodas starting at $48.

The Iowa Wild 2014-15 season is presented by Mercy Medical Center, it runs from October through April. Fans may purchase seats to see any of the team’s 38 regular season home games at Wells Fargo Arena. Season tickets to see the Wild play at Wells Fargo Arena start at just $9 per game.
