Iowa Plays Friday in Rockford, Returns to Wells Fargo Arena Saturday and Sunday to Host Lake Erie
DES MOINES, IA – The Iowa Wild (13-22-1-1, 28 points) were defeated by the Chicago Wolves (19-14-4-0, 42 points) 3-0 in front of 4,259 fans on Tuesday night at Wells Fargo Arena. Wolves goalie Matt Climie (9-8-3) stopped all 20 shots he faced, recording his second shutout of the year. Forwards Shane Harper, Philip McRae and John McCarthy each tallied a goal for Chicago in the road win. Despite stopping 35 of 37 shots, Iowa goalie Johan Gustafsson (7-15-1) picked up the loss. Iowa plays at 7 p.m. in Rockford this Friday.
After a scoreless first period, the Wolves opened up the scoring at the 2:45 mark of the second period with a power-play goal from forward Shane Harper. Harper’s 13th goal of the season was assisted by forwards Pat Cannone and Ty Rattie for the 1-0 lead.
In the third period, Chicago extended its lead with a goal from forward Philip McRae. McRae fired a wrist shot past Iowa goalie Johan Gustafsson at the 14:55 mark of the third, giving the Wolves a 2-0 lead. Forward Jeremy Welsh aided McRae for his 11th goal of the season. Forward John McCarthy gave Chicago some insurance with an empty-net goal 17:50 into third. McCarthy’s fifth goal of the year was unassisted for the 3-0 final.
After a trip to Rockford on Friday, Jan. 16, Iowa returns home for a three-game home stand starting at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 17 with the Lake Erie Monsters. Iowa is holding a sport equipment drive in its first game with Lake Erie, sponsored by Scheels. For each item donated, the fan receives a ticket voucher for a future game. The drive benefits Courage League Sports. The first 1,000 fans receive an Iowa Wild Piggy Bank, presented by Mercy.
On Sunday, Jan. 18, the Wild and Monsters meet again at 3 p.m. Also on Sunday, the Wild celebrates Kids WinterFest, featuring Xbox Dance Revolution, face painting, balloon artists and a sign station, presented by Fast Signs. The first 1,500 youths to the game (12 and under) receives an Iowa Wild green youth jersey, presented by KDSM FOX 17 & Scheels. The team is also hosting its first ever Baby Derby, presented by Me & Mommy To Be. Fans will be able to watch the baby’s crawl to see which is the fastest in central Iowa. Fans will also be able to purchase the Subway Combo Pack, presented by Subway and 104 More. The Subway Combo Pack includes one ticket, one hot dog, one soda and a Subway coupon, starting at just $12. The Wild also hosts a public skate after the game, presented Grip Tite. All fans are reminded to bring their skates.
The Iowa Wild 2014-15 season is presented by Mercy Medical Center, it runs from October through April.
