Iowa Hosts Pink in The Rink Saturday
DES MOINES, IA – The Iowa Wild (17-32-1-1, 36 points) were defeated by the Texas Stars (22-16-10-1, 55 points) 3-1 in front of 6,680 fans on Friday at Wells Fargo Arena. Forward Greg Rallo scored twice and forward Justin Dowling also score for the victory. Texas goalie Jussi Rynnas (15-4-6) made 35 saves on 36 shots in the road win. Olivier Archambault spoiled Rynnas’ shutout, scoring with 54 seconds left in the third period. Iowa goalie John Curry (8-12-0) stopped 19 of 22 shots in the loss. Iowa hosts Texas again at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 14.
Texas opened up the scoring 1:59 into the first period when forward Greg Rallo scored. The Stars forward fired a wrist shot past Iowa goalie John Curry for his 15th goal of the season. Forward Gemel Smith assisted Rallo on the play, making it 1-0 Stars. Texas extended its lead when forward Justin Dowling deflected the puck into the net off a shot by defenseman Julius Honka at the 9:16 mark of the period. Dowling’s 12th goal this year was aided by Honka and forward Matej Stransky, giving the Stars a 2-0 lead.
Rallo scored his second goal of the game 12:52 into the second period. Smith and defenseman Cameron Gaunce assisted Rallo on his 16th goal of the season for the 3-0 Stars lead.
In the third period, Iowa drew within two when rookie forward Olivier Archambault scored a six-on-five even strength goal. Archambault tipped the puck in past Texas goalie Jussi Rynnas for his first goal of the season. Defensemen Danny Syvret and Colin Bowman set up Archambault for the 3-1 final.
Iowa continues a three-game home stand on Saturday, Feb. 14 against Texas and is celebrating Pink in The Rink. The first 7,500 fans at Saturday’s game receive a pink LED light, presented by Susan G. Komen of Iowa and 1700 The Champ. As part of Pink In The Rink, Iowa dons pink-in-the-rink themed specialty jerseys. After the game, the team is holding a live postgame jersey auction, with the proceeds benefitting Susan G. Komen of Iowa. Fans may purchase the Brewdog Pack, presented by Legends American Grill. The package starts at $15 per fan, consisting of a ticket, a Wild puck, a hot dog and a beer at the game. Fans also receive a beer at Legends American Grill – downtown location.
Iowa finishes its three-game home stand at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Feb.15 against the Oklahoma City Barons. Sunday’s game is Crash’s birthday party, where the team celebrates with a superhero and mascot party. Numerous local mascots and super heroes will be on hand to help ring in Crash’s big day. The first 1,500 fans at Sunday’s game will receive an Iowa Wild insulated lunch bag, sponsored by Star 102.5. Fans may purchase the More 104 Subway Combo Pack, which starts at $12 per person, including a ticket, a hot dog, a soda and a Subway coupon.
The Iowa Wild 2014-15 season is presented by Mercy Medical Center, it runs from October through April. Fans may purchase seats to see any of the team’s 38 regular season home games at Wells Fargo Arena. Season tickets to see the Wild play at Wells Fargo Arena start at just $9 per game.
