Iowa Returns Home Mar. 15 to Begin Six-Game Home Stand
SAN ANTONIO, TX – The Iowa Wild (21-38-1-1, 44 points) were defeated by the San Antonio Rampage (33-19-5-1, 72 points) 4-1 in front of 10,565 fans on Saturday night at the AT&T Center. After two scoreless periods the Rampage built a 3-0 lead and goalie Michael Houser held the Wild off the scoreboard for the first 56:36 of play. Forwards Brett Olson, Garrett Wilson and John McFarland pushed San Antonio in front, while Houser (12-8-3) backstopped the victory with 24 saves. Iowa goalie John Curry (11-16-0) finished with 31 saves on 34 shots, as the club saw its three-game winning streak come to a halt. Kurtis Gabriel scored the Wild’s lone goal as the team ended a four-game road trip. Iowa begins a six-game home stand on Sunday, Mar. 15 with a visit from the Utica Comets at 5 p.m.
After two scoreless periods, Rampage forward Brett Olson opened up the scoring at 5:05 of the third period, giving San Antonio a 1-0 lead. Defenseman Shane O’Brien floated a wrist shot towards the Iowa net and Olson tipped it for his 10th goal of the year. San Antonio added to its lead at 11:07 of the final frame off Garrett Wilson’s 19th goal of the season. Defenseman Mackenzie Weegar snapped a wrist shot to the crease and Wilson deflected the puck past John Curry for the 2-0 score. O’Brien picked up the secondary assist on the second goal of the night. Forward John McFarland added to the lead at 15:13 with his seventh goal of the season. He beat Curry with a wrist shot from the right-wing circle for the 3-0 Rampage lead. Wade Megan and Quinton Howden each picked up an assist on the tally. Iowa’s Kurtis Gabriel spoiled Michael Houser’s shutout bid at 16:36, trimming the deficit to 3-1. Center Ian Schultz played the puck to the San Antonio net and Gabriel potted a rebound for his seventh goal of the season. McFarland added an empty-net goal at 18:46 of the third period for the 4-1 final.
The Wild returns home on Sunday, Mar. 15 for a 5:00 p.m. faceoff with the Utica Comets, which marks the beginning of a six-game home stand. During the first intermission, the team is celebrating its first ever “Wedding on Ice”, sponsored by Grip Tite Foundation Repair. Prior to the game, Iowa is hosting a charity game to raise money for Autism. The game features Wells Fargo versus Principal Financial at 2 p.m. with all proceeds going to the Autism Society of Iowa. Specialty pucks will be available for purchase on the concourse, with the proceeds benefitting the Autism Society of Iowa. Fans are encouraged to bring their skates for a postgame skate after the game, presented by Grip Tite Foundation Repair. Fans may also purchase the Subway Combo Pack, which starts at $12 per person, including a ticket, a hot dog, a soda – also presented by More 104 FM.
Iowa continues its six-game home stand with Charlotte at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Mar. 21. The day of the game, Iowa is hosting the first ever “Bags and Brews On Ice” tournament from 1:00 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. The event, sponsored by Summit Brewing, Lazer 103.3 and Tailgate Addicts – features a keg from Summit Brewing, music and a stream of the NCAA tournament games up on the video board. The team is holding a silent auction on the concourse, benefitting the American Heart Association (AHA). Fans may bid on the team’s AHA warm-up jerseys through the first two periods of the game. The first 1,500 fans to Saturday’s game receive an Iowa Wild duffel bag, sponsored by Iowa Ortho & Lazer 103.3. Every Saturday night fans may purchase the Brewdog Pack - presented by Legends American Grill. The package starts at $15 per fan, consisting of a ticket, a Wild puck, a hot dog and a beer at the game. Fans also receive a postgame beer at the downtown Legends American Grill location.
Iowa and Charlotte meet again at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Mar. 22. The team celebrates Agriculture Appreciation Day on with the first 5,000 fans receiving a cowbell, presented by sponsored by Verizon Wireless. The Iowa Wild 2014-15 season is presented by Mercy Medical Center, it runs from October through April. Fans may purchase seats to see any of the team’s 38 regular season home games at Wells Fargo Arena. Season tickets to see the Wild play at Wells Fargo Arena start at just $9 per game.
