Iowa Hosts San Antonio on Saturday at 12:30 PM
DES MOINES, IA – The Iowa Wild (21-42-2-2, 46 points) were defeated by the San Antonio Rampage (42-20-5-1, 90 points) 4-1 in front of 6,008 fans on Saturday at Wells Fargo Arena. Forwards John McFarland and Dany Heatley scored power-play goals 26 seconds apart midway through the first period, pushing San Antonio past Iowa. Forwards Bobby Butler and Wade Megan also scored for San Antonio in the road win. Rampage goalie Sam Brittain (2-0-0) made 30 saves on 31 shots, recording the club’s eighth straight win. Forward Olivier Archambault scored the lone Iowa goal. Wild goalie Johan Gustafsson (8-20-1) stopped 26 of 30 shots in the defeat. Iowa visits Chicago at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Mar. 29.
San Antonio opened up the scoring 12:04 into the first period when forward John McFarland scored a power-play goal. Forwards Corban Knight and Bobby Butler assisted McFarland on his 10th goal this season, making it 1-0 Rampage. San Antonio extended its lead less than 30 seconds later when forward Dany Heatley finished off a back-door-feed on the power play at 12:30 of the period. Defenseman Dylan Olsen and forward Mark Mancari aided Heatley on his eighth goal this year for the 2-0 lead.
After a scoreless second period, forward Bobby Butler fired a wrist shot past Iowa goalie Johan Gustafsson at the 4:22 mark. Butler’s 26th goal this season was unassisted, making it 3-0 Rampage. San Antonio widened the gap when forward Wade Megan scored a shorthanded goal at 13:23 of the period. Megan’s third goal this year was unassisted, giving the Rampage a 4-0 lead. The Wild scored when rookie forward Olivier Archambault muscled the puck past San Antonio goalie Sam Brittain 18:42 into the period. Archambault’s fourth goal this season was aided by defenseman Jon Blum for the 4-1 final.
After a trip to Chicago, Iowa returns home to host Rochester at 7 p.m. on Friday, Apr. 3 to begin a four-game home stand. Friday’s game is Iowa Speedway Race Car Night, where multiple pace cars will be on hand. The first 5,000 fans receive an Iowa Wild rally towel, presented by ALT 106.3, KISS 107.5FM, Iowa Speedway and Fast Signs. It’s also a $2 Beer Night, presented by 100.3 The Bus. Fans may purchase 10-ounce domestic beers for only $2 through the first period of play. Iowa continues its four-game home stand against the Texas Stars at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, April. 7. It’s a Taco Tuesday – presented by Taco Johns, where each fan that comes to the game receives a coupon for a free crispy beef taco from Taco Johns. It’s also two-for-one Tuesday, where fans may purchase one attack end ticket and receive a second ticket free, sponsored by Hits 99.9 FM. Also, those who bring in a Subway receipt may purchase a $5 game ticket at the box office.
Iowa hosts the Rockford IceHogs at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Apr. 9. It’s a Throwback Thursday, where fans may purchase popcorn for one dollar, presented by 95 KGGO. Also, those who bring in a Subway receipt may purchase a $5 ticket at the box office. Iowa finishes its home stand against Oklahoma City at 7 p.m. on Friday, Apr. 10. It’s Fan Appreciation night featuring a team poster giveaway to the first 5,000 fans, sponsored by Mercy Medical Center, Prairie Life Fitness, Edwards Printing and MB2 Raceway. The team is also holding a Chuck-a-Duck at Friday’s game, where fans may purchase rubber ducks to throw on the ice during intermission. All proceeds from the event go to benefit the Youth Emergency Shelter and Services. sIt’s also STEM Night, where a $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to the student who designs the best helmet to reduce concussions for hockey players, presented by Des Moines University. It’s also a $2 Beer Night, presented by 100.3 The Bus. Fans may purchase 10-ounce domestic beers for only $2 through the first period of play.
The Iowa Wild 2014-15 season is presented by Mercy Medical Center, it runs from October through April. Fans may purchase seats to see any of the team’s 38 regular season home games at Wells Fargo Arena. Season tickets to see the Wild play at Wells Fargo Arena start at just $9 per game.
