OKLAHOMA CITY, OK – The Iowa Wild (23-48-2-2, 50 points) were defeated by the Oklahoma City Barons (40-27-5-3, 88 points) 3-0 on Friday night at the Cox Convention Center. Just one week after falling 4-0 in Des Moines to the Iowa Wild, the Barons, behind the play of goaltender Laurent Brossoit, returned the favor by handing the Wild a shutout defeat. The Barons goalie improved to 24-22-4 and made 27 saves with his fourth shutout of the year. Forward Andrew Miller scored once and added an assist to lead Oklahoma City. Wild goalie John Curry (13-23-2) stopped 30 of 33 shots in the defeat. Iowa suffered its 11th shutout of the year in the road loss. Iowa visits Oklahoma City at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Apr. 18.
Oklahoma City outshot Iowa 16-12 in the opening period, striking for the period’s lone goal at 9:33 of the first. Defenseman Joey LaLeggia fired a wrist shot over the shoulder of goalie John Curry, scoring his first pro goal from the high slot. Left wing Josh Winquist and center Andrew Miller each had an assist for the 1-0 lead through one period of play.
The Barons made it 2-0 at 12:27 with Andrew Miller’s 27th goal of the season. Off a faceoff in the Oklahoma City zone, Kyle Platzer sprung Miller with a zip pass to center, sending the Barons forward in alone behind the Wild defense. Miller snuck a backhand shot past John Curry for the 2-0 lead after two periods of play.
5:32 into the third period the Barons made it 3-0 with a rebound goal in the crease by defenseman David Musil. Forwards Ryan Hamilton and Mitch Moroz each had a hand in the club’s third goal of the night.
