Wild and Top Sports Station in Des Moines Extend Agreement by Two Years
DES MOINES, IA – The Iowa Wild, in conjunction with iHeartMedia Des Moines, announced on Thursday a new two-year broadcast agreement extension on 1460 KXNO through the 2016-17 season.
The two-year deal begins on Saturday, Oct. 10 as the Wild begins its third season in Des Moines with a 7 p.m. faceoff against the Charlotte Checkers at Wells Fargo Arena. The majority of the Iowa Wild’s 76-game regular season will be broadcast live on 1460 KXNO, Des Moines' Sports Station. Every game of the regular season and postseason will also be streamed live on iHeartRadio and AHL Live Radio. The Wild and iHeartMedia Des Moines had originally signed a two-year deal in 2013, prior to the team’s inaugural season.
“Partnering with the number one rated sports station in town helps strengthen our brand in central Iowa,” said Iowa Wild President Todd Frederickson. “iHeartMedia Des Moines has been a great partner to the Iowa Wild and by signing for two more years, it shows the commitment by both entities to create the best hockey market in the AHL.”
As part of the agreement, 1460 KXNO will also have Iowa Wild players and coaching staff on air for weekly interviews and features. In addition, the Iowa Wild and KXNO have partnered on a new monthly hockey show, which will be broadcast from various locations in Des Moines.
‘We are excited about our continued partnership with the Iowa Wild”, said KXNO Program Director Mike Killabrew. “We look forward to once again bringing our listeners world-class professional hockey.”
Joe O'Donnell returns for his third season in the booth for the Iowa Wild. In all, he enters his 11th season of calling hockey games, including his eighth in the Minnesota Wild organization. The 35-year old also worked in Houston (AHL), Idaho (ECHL) and Reading (ECHL). The Havertown, PA native has called the AHL's 2011 Calder Cup Finals, as well as the ECHL's 2007 All-Star Game and 2007 Kelly Cup Finals. O'Donnell was named the ECHL's National Conference Broadcaster of the Year in 2007.
As part of the new monthly Hockey Show, O’Donnell will be joined by Josh Fisher, as well as a variety of hockey personalities. Fisher is a veteran of over 1,000 hockey games called and is a regular in the broadcast booth with O’Donnell.
