Wells Fargo Arena was filled to the brim as the Wild hosted the Tucson Roadrunners, which featured a post-game concert from Brett Young. The Wild took a 2-1 lead at the end of the first period with goals from Kyle Rau and Brennan Menell, but two goals within the first two minutes of the third period gave Tucson a 3-2 lead. Colton Beck responded to knot the game at 3-3 just minutes later and the game was destined for overtime. However, Tucson’s Lane Pederson scored with just 37 seconds left in the game to steal two points away from the Wild.
2017 – Iowa Wild (0) vs. Chicago Wolves (4)
As the final homestretch of the season started, the Wild dropped a 4-0 contest to the Chicago Wolves. The two teams played a scoreless 40 minutes to start the contest, but then the Wolves pulled away in the third, scoring all four goals during that frame. The game marked the professional debut for Justin Kloos, who signed with the Wild after four seasons at Minnesota.
2016 – Gabriel Named Wild’s IOA/American Specialty Man of the Year Award
Forward Kurtis Gabriel was named the Wild’s IOA/American Specialty Man of the Year Award, being recognized for his exceptional dedication to the Des Moines community during the 2015-16 season. Throughout the season, Gabriel partnered with Defending the Blue Line, where he donated tickets for home games to military families in the greater Des Moines region and hosted meet-and-greets following those contests. He also was a regular at school and hospital visits.
