CURRY LEADS WILD TO 1-0 SHUTOUT OF MONSTERS
Iowa Begins a Three-Game Road Trip, Starting in Texas Next Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
Des Moines, IA – The Iowa Wild (17-16-3-2, 39 points) defeated the Lake Erie Monsters (17-18-0-3, 37 points) 1-0 in front of 6,529 fans at Wells Fargo Arena on Saturday afternoon. Iowa goalie John Curry (3-2-1) stopped 45 shots for the shutout, leading his team to a second straight victory against the Monsters. Wild forward Warren Peters scored the lone tally of the game, helping his club earn points in 16 of the last 21 outings. Calvin Pickard (9-9-2) stopped 26 shots in the loss. The Wild begin a three-game road trip starting in Texas on Wednesday, Jan. 22 at 7:30 p.m.
After a scoreless first and second period, the Wild finally opened the scoring at 2:13 with a power-play goal by forward Warren Peters. The Iowa center deflected a shot from defender Jonathon Blum, putting his club up 1-0. Wild forward Zack Phillips also picked up an assist on Peters’ fifth goal of the season.
Iowa will play three straight games on the road, all in the Lone Star state. The Wild visits the Texas Stars on Wednesday, Jan. 22 at 7:30 p.m. The team also plays a pair of games at San Antonio prior to returning home on Friday, Jan. 31 for a 7:05 p.m. game with the Milwaukee Admirals. Friday’s game on Jan. 31 against Milwaukee marks Military Appreciation Night, presented by the Marines. The game will feature various in-game elements to honor those who serve our country. The first 2,500 fans to the game receive a Wild camouflage hat, compliments of 92.5 KJJY. The game is also a $2 Beer Night, where fans may purchase $2, ten-ounce domestic drafts through the first period of play, presented by 100.3 The Bus. After the game, fans are invited to bring skates for a Postgame skate opportunity on the Wells Fargo Arena ice.
