BARONS DOUBLE UP IOWA WILD 4-2

WILD HEADS TO CHARLOTTE FOR A PAIR OF GAMES NEXT WEEKEND

Des Moines, IA – The Iowa Wild (1-1-0-0, 2 points) were defeated by the Oklahoma City Barons (1-3-0-0, 2 points) 4-2 in front of 4,217 fans on Sunday night at Wells Fargo Arena. Barons Ryan Jones and Anton Lander scored power-play goals 46 seconds apart in the third period, breaking a 2-2 tie and pushing Oklahoma City in front for good. Barons forwards Derek Nesbitt (2 goals, 1 assist) and Andrew Miller (3 assists) each had three points to help Oklahoma City pick up the team's first win of the season. Oklahoma City goalie Olivier Roy (1-0) stopped 28 shots for the win. Iowa goalie Darcy Kuemper (0-1) made 28 saves in the defeat. Wild forwards David Steckel and Brett Bulmer each had a goal in the defeat. The Wild will travel to Charlotte for a pair of games on Saturday and Sunday at the Time Warner Cable Arena.

In the first, Iowa claimed a 1-0 lead at 4:01 of the opening period as forward David Steckel potted a rebound for his first goal of the season. Center Jake Dowell and defenseman Brain Connelly each had an assist on the game's first goal.

In the second period, Oklahoma City tied the game 1-1 at 9:45 of the second period. Forward Derek Nesbitt found a loose puck in the Iowa crease and flipped the rebound past Wild goalie Darcy Kuemper. Nesbitt's first of the season was assisted by Ryan Martindale and Andrew Miller. The Barons moved in front 2-1 at 13:36 after Nesbitt scored his second goal of the night. Martion Gernat and Martindale each added an assist on the tally. The Wild inched back to tie the game 2-2 with 3:14 left in the second period. Forward Brett Bulmer scored for Iowa, his second of the season was set up by Chad Rau and Jason Zucker.

In the third period, the Barons took advantage of a five-minute major power play with two goals in 46 seconds. Anton Lander pushed Oklahoma City in front with his first of the season at 9:50 of the third period. Nesbitt and Linus Omark set up the go-ahead goal. Less than a minute later, the Barons claimed a 4-2 lead with a power-play goal by Ryan Jones. Andrew Miller picked up his third assist of the night on Jones' second goal of the year.

The Wild will return home on Thursday, Oct. 24 to host the Chicago Wolves at 7:05 p.m. The game marks the beginning of a five-game home stand for the Wild who will also host the Grand Rapids Griffins on Sunday, Oct. 27 at 5:05 p.m. The game will feature the Subway Family Four Pack, with four tickets, four hot dogs, four hats, four sodas and four popcorns, starting at $44. The game on Oct. 27 will also feature a Halloween Costume Party for fans and a postgame skate.
