DEVO CAMP DAILY: BACK ON THE ICE
Jun 25, 2019Day 1
You really couldn't ask for a better start to development camp.
Yesterday, the more than 30 prospects competed in a sand volleyball tournament, beginning the development camp with some friendly competition. The tournament culminated in a championship and bragging rights for five guys, but the whole team benefitted from an easy way to get to know each other and building teamwork at the same time.

Tuesday morning brought the first time the guys had been on the ice this summer. For those who were with Iowa during the team's historic playoff run, it had just been a month layover, but for others, it was much longer.
Broken up into two groups, the prospects skated through drills designed by Power Edge Pro, a Minnesota-based training group brought in for development camp. Working on edge work, passing, shooting and skating, every player worked up a sweat in the hour-long session.

For the afternoon, the prospects descended onto a local grocery store in a hands-on activity to learn about nutrition and how to properly fuel an athlete's body during the course of the season. The players were broken up into groups of four or five and competed in a scavenger hunt, trying to find specific items among the products.

There was no easing into development camp for Day 1, and that's just how the boys like it. Work hard on the ice and continue to get ready for the upcoming season, because it'll be here before anyone knows it.
